Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: "The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love."

Title: Allegiant
Series: Divergent #3
Genre: Romance, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Very, very sad endings
Pages: 526
Ages: The ending is depressing, so I'd say 14+
My Rating: 4 Stars
My Word: Still Trying to Comprehend that ENDING
My Fave(s) Quote: Before I share some of my favorite quotes, I have to say, I loved too many quotes of this book so I'm only sharing a fraction of them:

"I suppose a fire that burns that bright is not meant to last" (492).

"When her body first hit the net, all I registered was a gray blur. I pulled her across it and her hand was small, but warm, and then she stood before me, short and thin and plain and in all ways unremarkable- except that she had jumped first. The stiff had jumped first.
Even I didn't jump first.
Her eyes were so stern, so insistent.
Beautiful"
(491).

ATTENTION: DON'T READ THE FOLLOWING QUOTE UNLESS YOU'VE READ THE BOOK
(I only like the below quote because of the way it was written, not WHY it was written.)
"I feel a thread tugging me again, but this time I know that it isn't some sinister force dragging me toward death.
This time I know it's my mother's hand drawing me into her arms.
And I go gladly into her embrace"
(476).

Review

Dear ending,

Seriously why?

Let's be absolutely positively clear, I did not like the ending. I felt that it didn't have to be there at all to show get the point across. An ending for the Divergent series should not have been that extremely bad! And I don't care that maybe Veronica was trying to teach us that there may not be happy endings, and that selflessness does not always lead to a sense of accomplishment because we all know that the ending did not have to happen to show us this and I know that Tobias would agree with me here if he were real.

But, the thing is, I can't do anything to change the book, unless I deliberately go to Veronica's house and force her to reprint it. So, I have decided to agree to disagree about this, and that Veronica Roth is the owner of this book and gets to determine what shall happen with the main characters, even if that means freakin-- ugh wait no spoilers I forgot.

Of course, as you see, I've given the book four stars because this book wasn't that bad it's just that freaking ending that no one likes. (Seriously, please comment below if you actually liked that ending). That ending was just too harsh, Veronica Roth, and I think you know that.-.- I feel that the thing that occurred at the end not only left us hanging, but left us waiting, anticipating for something to happen, to make things better and of course that had not happen.

Putting that aside for the moment, let's move to characters! Yet again, Roth doesn't disappoint me with the characters. I love her style of writing and the beautiful metaphors and words she places so easily throughout the book. I love Tobias and Tris and their quirky, but serious nonetheless love connection, and I love Matthew, Christina, Zeke, Uriah D:, and even Peter for the brave thing he does to himself (at least I think it's brave). But out of all these characters, Tobias was the one who really hit my soft spot with the ending and all of his feelings mixed into one. I felt everything he felt in the end and I wish I could meet him one day--oh right, he's not real. But it feels like it is (thanks to Veronica's crazy awesome writing).

The meh
-Despite that awesome characters, I think Roth did a pretty bad job with Tobias' and Tris' first POV. Every time I read something about Tobias or Tris in a chapter that does not include 'I' or 'me', I'm like "Whaaat? Oh...this is Tris not Tobias" and vice versa.

-Also, the idea of GOING OUTSIDE OF THE FENCE I mean come on? Doesn't that seem so exciting/action packed/dangerously awesome?! But no, Veronica decides to pull the haha-it's-just-an-experiment-about-your-bloddy-bad-genes concept which I honestly was disappointed in.

Anyway, this book wasn't really that bad (but definitely worse than Divergent and even Insurgent). I'll hopefully learn to accept this book and how the series officially ends, yet if Veronica Roth is reading this, which I highly doubt, she must know that seriously what she did was not even essential! My tears should not go to fictional characters' deaths thank-you-very-much.

Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

My Word: PANSYCAKE
My Favorite Quote: (New thing I'm doing) THIS QUOTE IS A SPOILER SO PLEASE DO NOT READ----vvvvv

"'I don't..." I sound like I am being strangled. "My family is all dead, or traitors; how can I..."
I am not making any sense. The sobs take over, and bathwater soaks my legs. His hold is tight. I listen to his heartbeat and, after a while, find a way to let the rhythm calm me.
'I'll be your family now,' he says." (P. 399)

There are some minor spoilers in review, so please read this once you've finished the book!

Review
 Wow.

That's all I can say. To this book.

SO many things happened throughout the 525 pages of this story, and I have to tell you, the ending was what drove me to giving this book 5 stars.

The ending...

Wow.

There was one thing that conflicted me while reading, though, and that was Chapter 32 'til the end of Chapter 33 because I wasn't sure what was a simulation and what wasn't, but then I got the gist of it after thinking it through.

Anyway, this book was like a journey through feelings I've never felt before, and I'm not even sure how to apprehend these feelings. I was slightly confused, yet thrilled, yet scared, yet mournful, yet freaked out all in one feeling. This is the case because it seemed to me that Tris kept switching sides of what she believed in: She wanted to die, then she wants to live for the deaths she's blames herself for. She wanted to help destroy the simulation, then she decides to help Marcus find out the truth. She acts dauntless and strong because she didn't care if she died or not(which Tobias wasn't very fond of), then she decided to be more careful.

And I think the reason for these different decisions were from her confusing life and the grief she keeps trying to bury. That's what made me decide to give this book 5 stars. Because I was feeling all the same mixed feelings that Tris felt. I tagged along her journey, instead of reading words on a page, and saw her feel these feelings, and that's what made me empathize rather than sympathize because it felt like I was going through the same problems that she was.

And any story that makes me feel like I'm apart of it, makes it feel so real, deserves 5 stars.

Oh, and that damn ending was just a bonus. OMG how scary, how apprehensive, how scrutinizing, how thrilling, how shocking...

What a cliffhanger.

So, this is me, waiting for the last book to come out:

Free Four: Tobias Tells the Story (Divergent #1.5) by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: "#1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth retells a pivotal Divergent scene (chapter 13) from Tobias's point of view. This thirteen-page scene reveals unknown facts and fascinating details about Four's character, his past, his own initiation, and his thoughts about new Dauntless initiate Tris Prior."

Title: Free Four
Series: Divergent #1.5
Genre: Dystopian, Shorter-than-a-novella, gorgeous-four
Pages: 13
Ages: 13+
Date I Finished: August 9th, 2013
My Rating: 4 Stars
My Word: ShortYetSweet

Review
Is the title supposed to be ironic, like instead of Free Four, it could be Three Four? Haha I'm weird :). It probably just has to do with the free/alive Dauntless and all.

How does Veronica Roth make scenes so visual?? It amazes me. It's like I'm in the corner of the training room watching all of this happen rather than reading words on a page.

It is so nice to have Fours point of view-it changes things up. Four is one of my dream guys. I mean, who wouldn't want a handsome, knife-throwing, kickass boyfriend?

I'm a little more than halfway of Insurgent before finding out about this little scene. It was kind of nice to go back to the old, training initiates days.

I have to say, I'm not surprised Four had feelings for Tris that early. I kind of already suspected that.

Anyway, this scene was intriguing and I just love the way Four thinks and acts. Ugh he's so perfect.

Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: "In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue-Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudtie (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is-she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive intiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are-and where, exactly, a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves...or it might destroy her."
Title: Divergent

Genre: Science Fiction, Romance, BEYOND THE BEYOND
Pages: 487 (Not long when you're obssesed with it!)

My Rating: 5 STARS
My Word: UNBELIEVABLE (it describes all the other words I put in the middle end of my post)

Unbelievable. This has to be now on my top ten list! This book caught my attention right from the cover. Beatrice-or Tris-was Divergent they called. She kind of had two different worlds and personalities she did not really understand hence the word Divergent. She loved Abnegation, where her family was, but she also knew she was brave for the Dauntless. This novell had a very uniique plot! Of course, all fantastic writers do. She goes through initiation for the Dauntless and meets new friends and a boyfriend along the way. I love that Roth made Tris and Four, or should I say, Tobias, really connect together and be the perfect match. So many things surprised me, although it seemed the main character, Tris, did not catch on very easily because some of the shocking parts I already inferred in earlier parts of the story. But geuss what? That was really the ONLY negative I had about it because it was so beautifully written! It was funny, shocking, suspenseful, active (no boring parts), and mostly (and my favorite) romantic! You could most certainly tell throughout the book that Tris was thinking like she was Divergent (because she was) because she was selfless sometimes and brave and revengeful some other times. I won't say much anymore, but this book was incredible and I would never could make a novel this well written and beautiful. This book was full out AMAZING! Why oh why did it have to end? But I can't wait until the sequel, Insurgent, comes out this May! Hope you read it because you will be inspired by it and there are ligit no boring parts in the book! I will never forget this book and I worship Veronica Roth for the fantastic story she has made!
