Synopsis: "Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.
In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever."

Fave Quote: "Instead she takes a long moment, then says, 'I would love for Maddie to stay with me. Is that why you brought her here?'
And there lies the heart of my anger, and this persistent heartsick feeling like a lead weight on my chest. 'We brought her here,' I say, very carefully, working through my disbelief, 'because we have no place else to go'" (214).
Review
I freaking hate this book. And then I love it because of how badly I want things to get better. And then I hate it again for not getting better. I was pulling my hair and grinding my teeth throughout the whole novel because of one bad thing after the other. They escape this awful event, but oh sorry, they land right in a new problem.
No, Rhine. What the actual fuck are you doing? I was thinking the whole time and when she is moping around I was gonna jump in and smack her across the face, until I realized...what happened. Well, you'll just have to read it. And the fact that Rhine never asked Gabriel how he was feeling or actually listen to his opinions instead of ignoring him and crying for her brother. Also, that...operation Rhine gets had me blinking like crazy and maybe, nearly, no- definitely about to throw up.
*Phew* now that I got that out of the way. I really loved this book! I know what you're thinking; you're probably like The hell. She just listed a thousand reasons why she hated it. That's true but although I hated those parts of the story, it caused me to fervently flip the pages. I needed some sort of consolation for these horrible things, and you know what I got? Nothing. Can't you see why I love that? Because I couldn't stop thinking about it. I mean, there had to be something to reprieve of those awful experiences that Rhine was drowning in, but there wasn't and it just got worse. Especially the end, you'd think it was hope for Rhine, but to me it just felt like another punch in a gut because there was nothing Rhine could do about what she found out in the end.
And Gabriel. It was such a bummer to not really get any good descriptions of him because Rhine was only thinking about her annoying brother (whom I'm sure I'll love if we ever meet him). But honestly I loved Gabriel since the first book and my heart melted whenever he was in the book (although very little -_-). He cares about Rhine so much and Rhine just uses him as a comforter whenever she's sad. She does help him when he is sick, but not when he feels depressed or mad, she can only ever say "sorry" enough.
Ooh, oh and the carnival! I thought in the beginning that's what the entire book would be about, but not even close. I'm happy about that because I would've been so annoyed if they were stuck in the "carnival" throughout the book. Even the first few pages got me anxious for them to escape. Since I'm mentioning the carnival, I'll just say Lilac and Maddie and Jared *sniffles* are the best "family" together.
Nonetheless the love of this book overpowered the hate, and I'm dying to get my hands on the final novel of the series. DeStefano really brings this story to life and the characters have true, raw emotions. There is no joking around in this book and I was scared to even read the next page, with new surprises nearly every second.

Panic by Lauren Oliver
Before I start this review, I just wanted to apologize for not being on this blog for a while! I had so much to deal with the last few weeks of school (FINALS :( ) but now it's summer so I'll give you guys PLENTY of book reviews :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Synopsis: "Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.
Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.
For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes he very things we fear are those we need the most."
Title: PANIC
My Rating:
My Word: Heart Racing, freaking anxiety filled
My Fave Quote:
"But Autumn nibbled the blue sky with its teeth, tore off chunks of the sun, smudged out that heavy veil of meat-smelling smoke. It was coming. It would not be held out much longer.
It would bring rain, and cold, and change.
Just before that: the final challenge.
The deadliest challenge.
Review
I live in a bubble. Every day, I go to school, see my friends, go home, do homework, and repeat. My town is filled with some rich kids and seeing them waste their money on extra drinks in the cafeteria or wearing a new outfit a day makes me want to cringe. I've learned from an early age not to spend more money than I have to, and now I don't even have to remind myself. It's just a habit to conserve my money.
In Panic, many residents in Carp are poor. There is Meth Row, where Dodge and other poor residents live, and there is the trailer park, where the even poorer people live, including Heather. It was fascinating to read about their lives and their families and the trouble that they endured.
Not only that, but hearing people say "This novel is just like the Hunger Games! It such a copy." First of all, this book isn't set in the futuristic dystopia where you're forced to play a game to show power. This game was created by students and personally I thought this book was more exciting and thrilling due to the absurd stunts and tasks the students have to do. That said, the plot was definitely original and the different challenges made my heart race for these fictional character.
Speaking of fictional characters, the absolute reason why I got this book to be four stars were the characters, specifically Heather and Bishop.
“They had their own language, their own jokes. They were constantly touching each other too – pushing and shoving, pinching and hugging, like kids flirting on a playground.”
*sigh* best relationship ever.Literally, I was waiting for their perfect relationship to happen and once it did I could not contain my feelings.
Not to mention Dodge. He was absolutely perfectly imperfect and his and Heather's background story made me sympathize for them throughout the whole story. Nat on the other hand was a little annoying for the first half of the story and very reckless (not that all of them weren't). She was crying over the stupidest things and making horrible decisions. During the end though, she didn't bother me as much.
One of the things I didn't like as much was that Oliver kind of rushed the last challenge, and she never showed Heather resolve any of her problems, like with Bishop. She just skipped right to the epilogue. I liked the epilogue, but I think I would've been a lot happier if we got to read that scene.
This story was a quick and fun read, and literally had my heart racing for the characters as they went through each challenge. I figured out the twist at the end with Bishop when Dodge started suspecting it and I was shocked and mad at myself for not figuring that out sooner! This story was very creative and I can't wait to read more of Oliver's upcoming books!
Review
I'm so tired, yet I really wanted to write the review for this novella ^-^.I personally think that this short story should have been #2.75 instead of #3.5 so that Requiem's ending could be the total ending of the series.
BUT, the ending to this novella was also good considering it is the actual last book to the series.
Anyway, it was awesome to finally see Alex's adventure before bumbing into Lena and Julian in the second book(uh-oh hehehehe).
Since this was the last book, I thought it'd have to do more with the 3rd book in the series; about Alex's feelings when he knew that Lena was with Julian and how he really felt when he told Lena that he never loved her (total lie obviously due to the ending of Requiem)
"...But how could anyone who's ever seen a summer--big explosions of green and skies lit up electric with splashy sunsets, a riot of flowers and wind that smells like honey--pick the snow?"
P.S. Although this isn't really related to Alex, I don't see why anyone hated the ending to Requiem? It was the perfect ending!
Requiem (Delirium #3) by Lauren Oliver
Synopsis
"They have tried to squeeze us out, to stamp us into the past.
But we are still here.
And there are more of us every day.
Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight.
After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancĂ©e of the young mayor.
Maybe we are driven crazy by our feelings.
Maybe love is a disease, and we would be better off without it.
But we have chosen a different road.
And in the end, that is the point of escaping the cure: We are free to choose.
We are even free to choose the wrong thing.
Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge."
My Word: I'll miss this series so much :'(/BEST ENDING
Review
Yes, that probably seems predictable. The ending is always the best in the end of a series ladidadida. BUT, if that's what you are thinking, you have NO IDEA why this ending was so great.
Maybe it's just me, but the boy Lena picked and the absolute happiness she was feeling in the end was enough to make me do this:
Seriously, the ending was perfection. I've wanted Lena to pick that boy throughout the whole book and I'm so happy she did.
I love all of the characters, especially how Lauren Oliver makes Hana's feelings toned down, but her observations really high, just like a person would be like when they have the cure. Julian and Alex were so different, yet amazing boys. (Yet I liked one a little better than the other for Lena ;) AKA the one she chooses in the end. HUGE SPOILER-->>>Ok, I can't handle it anymore, Alex was always perfect for her omgomgomg, and how mcuh they loved each other in Delirium and how great they are together I...JUST...CAN'T<<<--HUGE SPOILER I just thought their love story was so much more beautiful than the other one, except the two boys are both perfect *o*. Why can't they be real??)Also, Lena's "new" self is so bad ass (LOVE IT) and hardcore. "The old Lena is dead."
That moment with Hana and Lena together was one of the best moments in the last book :') it made me shed a tear. I also LOVE how Hana wasn't cured too perfectly.
Additionally, each end of the chapter made my stomach do back flips. The writing was beautiful, but of course it is because it's Lauren Oliver writing this for crying out loud. The plot, on the other hand, wasn't as GREAT as I expected. My expectations are high for every one of Oliver's novels. Obviously, the plot had to be what it was because the resistance had to make a stand, but the suspense wasn't as great as it should've been. BUT the writing totally made up for it with it's perfection and beauty.
Anyway, sorry for this unorganized review, but I couldn't write the review right after I finished the book--what I usually do--or else my review would've been 100% better.
Lastly, I have to brush up on the ending ONE LAST TIME because it was that perfect. It's not just the romance or the fact of happiness that made this ending so perfect; it was great because of how INSPIRING it was.
Annabel (Delirium #0.5) by Lauren Oliver
Synopsis
Lena's mother, Annabel, has always been a mystery—a ghost in Lena's past. Until now.Lena Halloway's mother, Annabel, supposedly committed suicide when Lena was only six years old. That's the lie that Lena grew up believing, but the truth is very different. As a rebellious teenager, Annabel ran away from home and straight into the man she knew she was destined to marry. The world was different then—the regulations not as stringent, the cure only a decade old. Fast forward to the present, and Annabel is consigned to a dirty prison cell, where she nurtures her hope of escape and scratches one word over and over into the walls: Love.
But Annabel, like Lena, is a fighter. Through chapters that alternate between her past and present, Annabel reveals the story behind her failed cures, her marriage, the births of her children, her imprisonment, and, ultimately, her daring escape.
My Word: Got that book off my chest :)
Review
Wow, two book reviews in one day! #IHaveNoLife :)
Seeing as in Delirium, Hana, and Pandemonium, the books I read before Annabel, (Although Annabel should've been read before all those books...yeah...I realized that a little too late) that ALL had their own special twist in the end (especially Hana), I guess I had too high hopes for this to have some awesome twist to it. The ending was pretty good, leaving a cliffhanger for those who haven't read Pandemonium before reading this, if you know what I mean *hinthint*.
Since Annabel was a novella, short and sweet, I decided I'll leave my review to be short and sweet as well ;).
"I love you. Remember.
And someday I will find you again."
My Word: FANTASTIC, YET SUSPENSFUL, YET SO SAD ALL IN ONE
I've tried, and I literally can't write a book review without leaving spoilers! :( I'm sorry I need to leave my opinion on certain things! If this were GoodReads, I would definitely cover them up, but I can't.
Review:
WARNING: Spoilers!! Don't read this unless you have read because you WILL spoil it for yourself! Trust me, it's happened to me before!
"Is what I did really so bad? So bad I deserved to die? So bad I deserved to die like that? Is what I did really so much worse than what anybody else does?
Is it really so much worse than what you do?
Think about it"
WHAT....WAIT WHAT
I fell in love with this book and Sam. At the end I couldn't stop crying (just saying :'( )
Okay I think this book relates to me, I know it sounds weird but my last name is Fullman (Kent McFULLER) and my crush's first name is Sam (SAM Kingston) Coincidence? I think not. LOL #nevergonnahappen
I think this book also strangely relates to the song 'Madness' by Muse. Like, some lyrics (ex: "I can't get these memories out of my mind" and "Now I finally realized what you mean" and "now I have finally seen the end" no pun intended for the last one...haha maybe a little pun intended)
Also, the song would make the ending even more suspenseful if this song were played while she dies.
Okay, moving on to the review. Well, this book was so SAD D:. I learned to think that it was happy at the end though because she (view spoiler)saved Juliet and if she DIDN'T die then she would never have realized how she actually felt about Kent. I feel so bad for Kent though because when the girl he likes finally sees how much he means to her, she has to die. :(((((
Characters: I thought were the best part in this book hands down.
I know most of you are probably like, "What are you talking about? Her friends were some mean and annoying and cared too much about themselves." Well, let me tell you that her friends personalities literally made this story as good as it was. If Sam never became friends with them, then she wouldn't have anything to learn from those 7 days (or..that one day? HAHA).
Rob: Hated him, but his attitude also made this story possible because you are supposed to hate him so that you love Kent! And so that (view spoiler)you're happy when she dumps him! Woohoo!
Sam: Didn't like her on the first day because she was so mean, but then she realized that things get more and more valuable when you don't have enough time to enjoy them. Also, she realized that Kent was more adorable than she though. (*o* those two make me want to cry, they were so cute).
I at first thought that this story would be too much like the movie Groundhog Day, especially when the author actually refers to that movie. BUT IT TOTALLY WAS DIFFERENT. It was so much more suspenseful and serious. Also, it was way cuter and sadder :(.
All in all, LOVED THIS BOOK and I can't wait until Lauren Oliver makes another great book like this. (Still have to read Requiem anyway so take your time Lauren!) It had such a good moral to it, which was to never take life for granted because you never really know what will happen next. Also, the lesson is that things become more valuable when you know you won't be able to have it anymore :(.
On Sam's last day, I felt so bad for her it hurt :'(. Because she knew that it would be her last day and she made sure that she said a mental 'goodbye' to everything (view spoiler)before she died.
P.S. Whoever gave this book a one star rating has no heart :'( ★★★★★
My Word:LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE THIS BOOK AND JULENA (haha just made that up. Get it? Julian and Lena :') I crack myself up jkjk)
OKAY, before you start this long and capsy and quotey work of art down there just beware that this review is so screwed up. To try to organize it, I numbered each topic I want to say. I swear one day I will make a GOOD review with good vocabulary and writing...............yeah hopefully......
And I know I'm not supposed to retell stories in a book review so pleasepleaseplease don't read this review if you haven't read the book yet. I'M BEGGING YOU. This is more of a discussion review for readers who've already read the book!!!! Enjoy!
Here's a small review to the readers who haven't read the book yet: GO GET YOUR FEET OFF THE GROUND, SIT DOWN, AND READ THIS BOOK. Now once you've done that you may read the actual review.
Review:
"When I’m running, there’s always this split second when the pain is ripping through me and I can hardly breathe and all I see is color and blur—and in that split second, right as the pain crests, and becomes too much, and there’s a whiteness going through me, I see something to my left, a flicker of color […]—and I know then, too, that if I only turn my head he’ll be there, laughing, watching me, and holding out his arms.
I don’t ever turn my head to look, of course. But one day I will. One day I will, and he’ll be back, and everything will be okay.
And until then: I run.”
ALERT: MAJOR SPOILERS IN REVIEW. TOO LAZY TO HIDE THEM SO READ IF YOU ALREADY READ BOOK!!
This review is more like a discussion with quotes so seriously DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK THIS IS YOUR 2ND AND LAST WARNING.
Also, another warning, there are a LOT of caps.(<--hehehe see what I did there?)
I LOVE LAUREN OLIVER'S WRITING. The beauty of words in this book pulls my insides out if that makes sense.
I have A LOT to cover in this review with quotes galore so bear with me!! :D I love this book too much!!!! Out of 5 stars, it was really hard for me to click the 5 because I would want to make it a BAJILLION STARS. Seriously, it has been TOO LONG since I read an actual really good book (AKA one of Lauren Oliver's books).
1) BTW TEAM JULLIAN. Ugh sorry I said "team blahblah" because now it sounds like Twilight and I never liked Twilight just saying. BUT seriously since Alex wasn't in this book until the veryveryveryvery end, I've grown to (*gasp* dare I say it) LOVE Julian and Lena together. I guess it's just the way he acts with her is adorable.
"'Are you cold?' Julian asks. 'A little,' I say... There's a pause and Julian rolls over onto his side and loops his arm around me, scooting forward so our bodies are pressed together, and I am cupped in the space around him. His heart beats through my back-a strange, stuttering rhythm. 'Aren't you worried about the delieria?' I ask him. 'Yes,' he says shortly. 'But I'm cold too.'...More silence. Finally, Julian says 'I'm scared.' He barely whispers it; but I can feel his lips moving against my neck, as though the words are being spelled there. 'I know,' I say, 'Me too.'... 'I'm less scared with you," Julian says." (236)
OMG SERIOUSLY THOSE TWO TOGETHER FOREVER.
2) Anyway, continuing with the story... MOST BEAUTIFUL WRITING EVER.
"Grief is like sinking, like being buried. I am in water the tawny color of kicked-up dirt. Every breath is full of choking. There is nothing to hold on to, no sides, no way to claw myself up. There is nothing to do but let go.
Let go. Feel the weight all around you, feel the squeezing of your lungs, the slow, low pressure. Let yourself go deeper. There is nothing but bottom. There is nothing but the taste of metal, and the echoes of old things, and days that look like darkness.”
And another quote....
"I read once about a kind of fungus that grows in trees. The fungus begins to encroach on the systems that carry water and nutrients up from the roots to the branches. It disables them one by one―it crowds them out. Soon, the fungus―and only the fungus―is carrying the water, and the chemicals, and everything else the tree needs to survive. At the same time it is decaying the tree slowly from within, turning it minute by minute to rot.
That is what hatred is. It will feed you and at the same time turn you to rot.
It is hard and deep and angular, a system of blockades. It is everything and total."
I seriously would add a billion more quotes, but I'm already using so many quotes. D: Lauren Oliver has the words of a goddess. Everything she writes is beautiful, even if it was when Blue died, she wrote it so beautifully :'(.
3)I loved Lauren's way of using the then's and now's as chapters because it made the story more powerful.
4) Characters: So many new characters were added to the second book! I love all of them. Tack, Hunter, Blue, Sarah, Lu, Raven, JULIAN, and more ugh. OMG I MISS HANA SO MUCH IT'S KILLING ME. Even though, if you read Hana, the prequel, she did something that I didn't approve of that hurt LENA, but it helped Lena find Julian so that they love each other <3. But Hana was really one of my favorite characters. I love Raven too, although sometimes she was a little too tough on Lena, but the end of the book I fell in love with her for what she did :).
5) OMFG THE ENDING. KILL ME NOW. UGH WHY. Okay, I thought I liked Alex and Lena together in Delirium, which I did, but the end of Pandemonium changed my feelings for him. Here's the quote refresher:
“Promise me we'll stay together, okay?" His eyes are once again the clear blue of a perfectly transparent pool. They are eyes to swim in, to float in, forever. "You and me."
"I promise," I say.
Behind us the door creaks open, and I turn around, expecting Raven, just as a voice cuts through the air: "Don't believe her."
The whole world closes around me, like an eyelid: For a moment, everything goes dark.
I am falling. My ears are full of rushing; I have been sucked into a tunnel, a place of pleasure and chaos. My head is about to explode.
He looks different. He is much thinner, and a scar runs from his eyebrow all the way down to his jaw. On his neck, just behind his left ear, a small tattooed number curves around the three-pronged scar that fooled me, for so long, into believing he was cured. His eyes-once a sweet, melted brown, like syrup-have hardened. Now they are stony, impenetrable.
Only his hair is the same: that auburn crown, like leaves in autumn.
Impossible. I close my eyes and reopen them: the boy from a dream, from a different lifetime. A boy brought back from the dead.
Alex"
BEST ENDING EVER yet why would Alex say "don't believe her"? Doesn't he know that Lena thought he was DEAD for 6 months? Didn't he ever think that she would HAVE to move on with her life?
Anyway, best book ever written and I'm not even kidding. Julian and her seriously are perfect and I'm mad that Alex is alive-_-. #TEAMJULIAN (Ugh I did it again and added a hashtag...not good)HA! Maybe Alex can be with Raven!
OKAY, before you start this long and capsy and quotey work of art down there just beware that this review is so screwed up. To try to organize it, I numbered each topic I want to say. I swear one day I will make a GOOD review with good vocabulary and writing...............yeah hopefully......
And I know I'm not supposed to retell stories in a book review so pleasepleaseplease don't read this review if you haven't read the book yet. I'M BEGGING YOU. This is more of a discussion review for readers who've already read the book!!!! Enjoy!
Here's a small review to the readers who haven't read the book yet: GO GET YOUR FEET OFF THE GROUND, SIT DOWN, AND READ THIS BOOK. Now once you've done that you may read the actual review.
Review:
"When I’m running, there’s always this split second when the pain is ripping through me and I can hardly breathe and all I see is color and blur—and in that split second, right as the pain crests, and becomes too much, and there’s a whiteness going through me, I see something to my left, a flicker of color […]—and I know then, too, that if I only turn my head he’ll be there, laughing, watching me, and holding out his arms.
I don’t ever turn my head to look, of course. But one day I will. One day I will, and he’ll be back, and everything will be okay.
And until then: I run.”
ALERT: MAJOR SPOILERS IN REVIEW. TOO LAZY TO HIDE THEM SO READ IF YOU ALREADY READ BOOK!!
This review is more like a discussion with quotes so seriously DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK THIS IS YOUR 2ND AND LAST WARNING.
Also, another warning, there are a LOT of caps.(<--hehehe see what I did there?)
I LOVE LAUREN OLIVER'S WRITING. The beauty of words in this book pulls my insides out if that makes sense.
I have A LOT to cover in this review with quotes galore so bear with me!! :D I love this book too much!!!! Out of 5 stars, it was really hard for me to click the 5 because I would want to make it a BAJILLION STARS. Seriously, it has been TOO LONG since I read an actual really good book (AKA one of Lauren Oliver's books).
1) BTW TEAM JULLIAN. Ugh sorry I said "team blahblah" because now it sounds like Twilight and I never liked Twilight just saying. BUT seriously since Alex wasn't in this book until the veryveryveryvery end, I've grown to (*gasp* dare I say it) LOVE Julian and Lena together. I guess it's just the way he acts with her is adorable.
"'Are you cold?' Julian asks. 'A little,' I say... There's a pause and Julian rolls over onto his side and loops his arm around me, scooting forward so our bodies are pressed together, and I am cupped in the space around him. His heart beats through my back-a strange, stuttering rhythm. 'Aren't you worried about the delieria?' I ask him. 'Yes,' he says shortly. 'But I'm cold too.'...More silence. Finally, Julian says 'I'm scared.' He barely whispers it; but I can feel his lips moving against my neck, as though the words are being spelled there. 'I know,' I say, 'Me too.'... 'I'm less scared with you," Julian says." (236)
OMG SERIOUSLY THOSE TWO TOGETHER FOREVER.
2) Anyway, continuing with the story... MOST BEAUTIFUL WRITING EVER.
"Grief is like sinking, like being buried. I am in water the tawny color of kicked-up dirt. Every breath is full of choking. There is nothing to hold on to, no sides, no way to claw myself up. There is nothing to do but let go.
Let go. Feel the weight all around you, feel the squeezing of your lungs, the slow, low pressure. Let yourself go deeper. There is nothing but bottom. There is nothing but the taste of metal, and the echoes of old things, and days that look like darkness.”
And another quote....
"I read once about a kind of fungus that grows in trees. The fungus begins to encroach on the systems that carry water and nutrients up from the roots to the branches. It disables them one by one―it crowds them out. Soon, the fungus―and only the fungus―is carrying the water, and the chemicals, and everything else the tree needs to survive. At the same time it is decaying the tree slowly from within, turning it minute by minute to rot.
That is what hatred is. It will feed you and at the same time turn you to rot.
It is hard and deep and angular, a system of blockades. It is everything and total."
This prequel was absolutely amazing, but my life will be complete only if I read Pandemonuim. I NEED to read it...it's like I have questions that are unanswered and they need to be answered...QUICK! Hana is a quick short story and once I finished Delirium I knew I had to continue with the series. I loved how Oliver made this book quick and short and in Hana's point of view. It made me realize that Lena did not notice some of the things that occurred with Hana while Lena was trying to figure out love. This story helped me learn more about Hana's side of the story which was much more hard for her. In Delirium I thought Hana was just a good friend and went to all the forbidden parties. But, as I read through Hana, I noticed that she had problems of her own that she kept a secret. The ending was the best, yet most twisted ending. The ending answered a question I had in Delirium. Why would Hana do such a thing?! The ending was the reason I give this book a four star, because other than that and some factors I learned about Hana, it was almost the same. I still loved this book though and I can't wait to read Pandemonium! GAHHHHH! ★★★★ |
Delirium (Delirium #1) by Lauren Oliver
Title: Delirium
Series: Delirium #1
Genre: Science Fiction, Romance, Ficiton
Pages: 441
Ages: 12+
Date I finished it: June 17th, 2012
My rating: Over the little star rating system thing...In other words, infinity stars! :D
My word/phrase: SUSPENSEFUL, ROMANTIC, OMG CAN A BOOK GET ANY BETTER, IT FELT LIKE THIS BOOK WAS REAL LIFE (it was that beautifully written!)
Book Format: Paperback (with the little sneak peak to the sequel so I just had to read that!)
Review: OH. MY. GOD. Let's just say...I cried. A lot. But ONLY at the end...for a good 10 minutes. BUT: (DO NOT READ IF YOU CAN INFER THINGS VERY EASILY) I felt better after I looked up a spoiler for the sequel. Then, at night I was so happy I couldn't fall asleep, even though I was sooo tired. Oh wait, back to the story. WOW....this story definitely reminded me of (view spoiler) DON'T READ INLESS YOU'VE READ BOOK! --> [Romeo and Juliet.] The ending shocked me and I couldn't believe what I was reading. It was SO suspenseful. The plot: I LOVED it. Such a unique, plus totally unthinkable plot. I would never imagine such a great idea as a plot. I would never think of love as a disease! Oh, but the characters were REALLY amazing. The main character, Lena, was born into this distopian society, so even though I was getting annoyed at her in the beginning of the story where she's overprotective of herself with Alex, it would be very rational for her to do such a thing, considered she was born and raised to think love was a disease. But, as the story progressed, Lena began thinking of her own opinions about love and what else it could really mean. Also, she was figuring out that the society wasn't what she thought it was, and that it never told the truth all the time. Oh and ALEX!!! Wait....can I have him?? To all these viewers, who have read the book or not, I'm not trying to give anything away!! <---very random to put it in the middle of my review haha! Alex is exactly like the future husband I would ever want. Plus, he cared so much about Lena! Every time something happened between them like when(DON'T READ UNTIL YOU READ BOOK!) (view spoiler)[they run off to the wilds and Alex confesses to her that he loves her...AWWWW!] *Ahem* Moving on...HANA! I've heard there's a prequel for this book called Hana that I'm definetely going to read! Hana, Lena's best friend, is the super pumped up, gorgeous girl that I would SO want to be friends with! Hana and Lena's personalities sort of switch throughout the book, when Lena discovers that love isn't a disease. But, I still love Hana and I can't wait to read the prequel! The ending was the addest thing I've ever read!! And I know that must seem crazy, but if I hear that a book is really deppressing, I literally won't read it, even if it IS good. Oliver's lovely writing made me FEEL like I was Lena, or at least some random person watching them the whole time throught the story. Lauren had the most beautiful written story that crossed my life so far, and I hope it stat there. :) Overall, I fell in love with Oliver's book Delirium and I saw no flaws :).
